latest first- Deaths of elderly couple in Cloneen under investigation Death (unexplained circumstances) · Co. Tipperary
Two bodies were found at a bungalow in Cloneen, County Tipperary, at around 4pm on 20 June 2022, after locals raised concerns about the property. The deceased were identified as Nicholas (Nick) Smith, 81, and Hilary Smith, 79, originally from the UK, who had told people they were emigrating to France in late 2020. Gardaí believe the couple may have died as long ago as November 2020, and a milk carton dated 2020 was found in the fridge. Post-mortems carried out on 21 June were inconclusive, and Nicholas Smith's death is now being treated as natural while his wife's death remains inconclusive. Gardaí are continuing the investigation, examining phone records and searching for relatives in the UK.
