Nicholas Muckian, 47, of Glenwood, Dundalk, was charged with the murder of 81-year-old Patricia (Pat) Muckian on 3 July 2024. He had originally been charged with assaulting three women causing them harm and unlawfully intimidating another person with a hatchet at Glenwood on 3 May 2024. At Dundalk District Court, the murder charge was put to him at 10.50am, and the earlier Section 3 assault charge relating to Pat Muckian could be withdrawn. Judge Mark O'Connell remanded him in custody for a week, and the book of evidence is expected to be served within a month.

Three women were injured in an alleged hatchet attack at a house in Glenwood Estate, Dundalk, on the afternoon of 3 May 2024, while family members were gathered for a birthday tea. woman Patricia Muckian, 81, was seriously injured and died at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, on 13 May 2024, while two other women, Mairead, 75, and Maria Muckian, were also taken to hospital. man Nicholas Muckian, 47, was arrested at the scene and charged with three counts of assault causing harm and one count of unlawfully intimidating another person with a hatchet.
