Niall McGowan, 32, of Newtownforbes, was found guilty by a jury of five counts of sexual assault on a 10-year-old girl at his residence between July 2019 and March 2020. He had pleaded not guilty and was arrested three times on suspicion of sexual assault. The jury returned a majority verdict of 11-1 on all five counts at Longford Circuit Court in November 2025, and he was remanded in custody pending sentencing. In May 2026, Judge Connolly imposed a seven-year prison sentence and suspended the final 18 months, resulting in a five-and-a-half-year term.
