latest first- Appeal lodged after Louth man jailed for endangerment and dangerous driving Endangerment; dangerous driving · Co. Louth
Niall McDonagh, 31, of Knockbridge, County Louth, was sentenced to three months at Dundalk District Court for endangerment and dangerous driving arising from an incident on 24 August 2020 at Green Road, Dromiskin. Gardaí on mobile patrol received a report of suspicious activity, and a detective garda who signalled McDonagh's red Northern Ireland registered BMW to stop had to jump out of the way as it travelled towards them at high speed, while a motorist in a Nissan Qashqai had to swerve to avoid a collision. The car stopped at McDonagh's home in Knockbridge where he entered the property. His vehicle was later seized by the Dundalk Road Policing Unit after he was clocked at 158kph on the M1 during speed checks while driving on a learner permit, unaccompanied, with no L-plates displayed. An appeal against the sentence was subsequently lodged.
