    Niall Ganley, a 33-year-old man described as a former schoolteacher, had highly sexualised online conversations with teenage girls. In July 2023 a UK-based group set up to stop online grooming reported to UK police that he had messaged a fake profile of a nine-year-old girl on Chat Avenue, and on 11 August 2023 gardaí searched his home in Rathfarnham, Dublin, seizing six digital devices. Ganley pleaded guilty to several offences, and in November 2025 Judge Martin Nolan at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court jailed him for two and a half years, halving a starting sentence of five years.
