On 8 August 2022 in Tramore, Co Waterford, Neil Elliott (63), of Cheekpoint, Co Waterford, met a 16-year-old boy who was under the care of the State after they connected on a dating app. Gardaí were called that evening and arrested Elliott after finding him with the boy on the beach. Elliott pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to section four oral rape of the boy, and further charges of anal rape and oral rape were taken into account. Judge Paul Burns set a headline sentence of eight years, imposed five years with the final year suspended, and the latest reports from 18 May 2026 say Elliott was jailed for four years.
