  On 22 September 2019 at the University Maternity Hospital Limerick (UHL), Nathan Murphy, 33, of Belfield Court, Farranshone, Limerick city, threatened to kill a male registrar after his partner came home distressed from a gynaecological examination. He had believed the doctor had sexually assaulted his then partner. Gardaí arrested Murphy later, and he pleaded guilty at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court. In January 2025 Judge Colin Daly imposed a three-year sentence, suspended in full, and called the threat an unwarranted attack on an essential service.
