latest first- Supreme Court clears man to seek compensation in Dublin murder case Murder · Co. Dublin
Yusuf Ali Abdi, a 48-year-old Somali man, was alleged to have murdered his 20-month-old son Nathan Baraka Andrew Ali on 17 April 2001 in Clane, Co. Kildare. The child died from head injuries sustained from impact against a hard surface. Abdi was convicted of murder by a 10:2 majority verdict in May 2003 and sentenced to life imprisonment. After serving 16 years, his conviction was set aside in February 2019 and at a retrial in late 2019 the jury found him not guilty by reason of insanity. The Supreme Court unanimously rejected the DPP's appeal on 30 May 2022, confirming the miscarriage of justice and clearing Abdi to seek compensation from the State.
