On 10 April 2025, a woman presented a Swedish lookalike passport with a photograph that did not match her at Dublin Airport. Muna Sharif, a 47-year-old British healthcare assistant from Birmingham, was arrested at the airport and charged with providing a fraudulent identity document and assisting the entry of a person into the State. The Somali woman, Asia Mohammad Ahmed, immediately claimed asylum. Sharif pleaded guilty at Dublin District Court in June 2026 and was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in July 2026.

On Friday 10 April 2026, Muna Mohamed Sharif, a 47-year-old British healthcare assistant from Birmingham, was arrested at Dublin Airport Terminal 2 at 2:10pm. She is accused of smuggling a Somali woman into the State using a Swedish lookalike document, and the Garda National Immigration Bureau charged her under sections 6 and 8 of the Criminal Justice (Smuggling of Persons) Act 2021. The Somali woman has since claimed asylum. On Saturday 11 April, Judge David McHugh at Dublin District Court held that Sharif was a flight risk and remanded her in custody pending DPP directions, and she is scheduled to appear again on Friday.
