On 25 January 2023, Gardai received a report of a woman aggressively begging at Market Square, Letterkenny, Donegal. Monica Rostas, a 39-year-old Romanian woman, was arrested and charged with actively begging while obstructing the free passage of the public under section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act 2011. She pleaded guilty at Letterkenny District Court on 13 February 2023. Judge Éiteáin Cunningham fined her €100 with six months to pay.
