latest first- Teen sentenced for dangerous driving causing death in Baltinglass Dangerous driving causing death · Co. Wicklow
A single-vehicle crash at Slaney Park, Baltinglass, County Wicklow, around 4:30am on 5 May 2024 killed 15-year-old passenger Molly Dempsey. The 18-year-old driver from west Wicklow, who was 16 at the time and cannot be identified for legal reasons, had taken his mother's Toyota Auris without permission and was driving for the first time. He was arrested at the scene, released the following day, and pleaded guilty in June 2025 to dangerous driving causing death, driving without insurance, and driving without a driving licence. In February 2026, Wicklow Circuit Criminal Court sentenced him to a two-year suspended prison term and a 10-year driving disqualification. The victim's family called the sentence disgraceful and the DPP is expected to consider an appeal against its leniency.
