A 25-year-old man drove over a 33-year-old Latvian man who was lying on the road in the early hours of 24 June 2018 on the R125 in Swords, Dublin. The victim, Ilmars Zorge, was a fruit picker who had been drinking with colleagues celebrating Latvia's national day and was walking home along poorly lit roads. Mohamid Benchouat, a construction worker, left the scene but was identified through CCTV and later pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. In May 2022, Judge Melanie Greally sentenced him to a suspended sentence for driving without due care and attention causing death.
