  On 7 August 2025 a 38-year-old man, Mohamed Kaness, formerly of Gardiner Street, D1, was reported at Lidl on Talbot Street, Dublin, after an incident in which he was accused of swinging a screwdriver at a security guard. He was charged with unlawful possession of a flathead screwdriver as a weapon and with producing an implement capable of causing serious injury, and he lost his hostel accommodation after a video of the incident was shared online. On 9 August 2025 at Dublin District Court, Judge Stephanie Coggans granted him strict bail over a Garda objection citing witness interference concerns, with conditions including signing on five days a week and staying away from Talbot Street and his former hostel. He was granted legal aid and ordered to appear again in September.
