Modeste Wilondja, a 22-year-old man from Castleblayney, County Louth, led gardaí on a 17-minute, 33-kilometre chase at speeds up to 180 km/h after being stopped at a filling station in Killanny on 25 April 2021. He was charged with two counts of reckless endangerment, dangerous driving at five locations, obstructing a member of An Garda Síochána, and driving without insurance. A bench warrant was issued in July 2021 after he failed to appear at Dundalk District Court, and he was sent forward for trial at Dundalk Circuit Court in November 2021. In January 2023, Judge Dara Hayes sentenced him to two and a half years suspended in full and disqualified him from driving for five years.
