Mirjana Pap, a 58-year-old Croatian woman, was reported missing from her home at Beechville, Athlone, Co Westmeath on 28 December 2024, and her body was found on bogland at Curraghaleen, Co Roscommon, about 10km away on 30 December. Her son Nebojsa Pap, a 32-year-old man, was arrested on 3 January 2025 and charged with her murder at Athlone Garda Station. He was remanded in custody at Mullingar District Court and further remanded on 8 January pending DPP directions. On 11 June 2025, he was served with a book of evidence and sent for trial at the Central Criminal Court.
