Minto Ahmed, a 44-year-old man on remand, suffered scald injuries across the right side of his face in an attack by another prisoner at Limerick Prison in the days before 21 June 2025. Mr Ahmed is on remand on a charge of producing a hammer in a dispute at his home on 7 May, and he had been refused bail at Ennis District Court the previous month. He was transferred to University Hospital Limerick and then to Cork University Hospital for treatment. On 21 June 2025 Judge Gabbett at Ennis District Court remanded him in custody to appear again on 2 July 2025, when DPP directions were due.
