Polish man Mikolaj Wilk, 35, was hacked to death by up to five masked men armed with machetes at his home in Ballincollig, Co Cork, at about 3am on 10 June 2018, in front of his wife Elzbieta, who sustained serious slash injuries to her face, neck and hands. Six people were arrested in 2019 in connection with the murder but all were released without charge. Gardaí completed their investigation and forwarded a file of over 3,000 pages to the DPP in 2025. As of May 2026, the DPP is still considering whether to direct prosecutions, and the inquest has been adjourned to 12 November 2026.
