On 20 April 2025, Mike McCormack, a man, called to the house of John Quinlan, a 52-year-old man, in Carew Park, Limerick, where a night of drinking ended in an alleged assault. The two men, childhood friends of more than 40 years, were both in their 50s. Quinlan was arrested six months later and charged with assault causing harm. At Limerick Circuit Criminal Court, Quinlan told the jury he slammed the back door on McCormack while pushing it, and the defence did not dispute that force was used. The jury found Quinlan not guilty after one hour of deliberation.
