latest first- Child abuse sentence increased to six years in Dublin Sexual assault of a child; sexual exploitation of a child; producing child pornography; possession of child pornography · Co. Dublin
A 45-year-old man was sentenced in April 2019 at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for sexually assaulting a boy aged 10 over two years, sexually exploiting the child, and producing and possessing child pornography. He was found with a 127-page paedophile manual and approximately 13,000 images depicting children, some as young as five months, in sexual activity with adults. The man, who had a previous 2006 conviction for sexually assaulting a child, had been held in the Philippines from 2015 until his extradition to Ireland. On 29 November 2021, the Court of Appeal quashed the original five-year sentence as unduly lenient and imposed six years, while also refusing the victims' parents' application to have the man named.
