latest first- Supreme Court affirms murder conviction in Tipperary Murder · Co. Tipperary
Bobby Ryan, 52, a part-time DJ known as 'Mr Moonlight' and father of two, went missing on 3 June 2011 after leaving his partner Mary Lowry's home at Fawnagowan, Co Tipperary, and his badly decomposed body was found in a disused underground run-off tank on a farm owned by Lowry and leased by Patrick Quirke on 30 April 2013. Quirke, 51, a dairy farmer from Breanshamore, Co Tipperary, was convicted by a 10:2 majority jury verdict after a 71-day trial at the Central Criminal Court in 2019 and sentenced to life imprisonment. The Court of Appeal dismissed all 52 grounds of his appeal in November 2021. The Supreme Court ruled in March 2023 that a computer seized from his home was unlawfully searched, but on 28 July 2023 unanimously dismissed his application for a retrial, affirming the conviction.
