  Michelle Keane, an unsuccessful Kerry election candidate, was jailed on 10 December 2024 at Listowel Circuit Civil Court for contempt of court over social media posts about Garda Sergeant Melanie Walsh. A July 2024 injunction had ordered Keane to remove online posts about the sergeant, and Walsh's legal team alleged the order was breached most recently by a Facebook post on 28 November 2024. Keane was released on 13 December 2024 after swearing undertakings to abide by the order. In July 2026, High Court Judge Brian Cregan overturned the contempt finding, describing the Listowel hearing as manifestly unfair, and Keane is to seek damages over her jailing.
