  David Larkin, a 41-year-old man from Longford (reports also give his age as 42), was charged with harassing Senator Micheál Carrigy, the Ballinalee postmaster, after sending text messages, Facebook posts and a voicemail between 20 December 2021 and 14 February 2022. The episode was initiated on social media in response to the senator's views on the government's handling of the coronavirus pandemic. Larkin was arrested in February 2022 and appeared at Longford District Court on 12 July 2022, where he was remanded on bail. He pleaded guilty in November 2022, and sentencing was adjourned in September 2023 to allow him to continue engaging with psychiatric services, with the case back before the court in December 2023.
