A woman in her 50s was assaulted while walking in Albert Reynolds Peace Park, Longford town, in the early hours of 7 August 2023, when she was allegedly struck from behind and beaten by Michal Godla, a Slovakian man now aged 35. Gardaí launched an investigation, released an evofit of the suspect, and made repeated appeals for witnesses before Godla was arrested in January 2024 and charged with assault causing harm and threatening to kill. He pleaded guilty to the assault charge at Longford Circuit Court in January 2024, and the state withdrew the threat charge. In May 2025, Judge Kenneth Connolly sentenced Godla to three years and three months in prison with no portion suspended.
