  • Man sentenced for assault on dead brother's partner in Longford Assault · Co. Longford

William Stokes, 31, was sentenced to three and a half years in prison at Tullamore Circuit Court on 27 February 2025 for assaulting his dead brother's partner, Michaela Liddy, and his cousin, Christopher Stokes, in a series of incidents in Edgeworthstown and Longford in 2021. Stokes was charged with assault, aggravated burglary, and assault causing harm after he entered Ms Liddy's home at Mostrim Oaks, Edgeworthstown, at around midnight on 30 April 2021, grabbed her by the neck, flung her against the stairs, and called her a prostitute and a whore. A second incident in June 2021 saw him grab Ms Liddy by the hair, and on 17 July 2021 he sprayed his cousin with pepper spray and tried to punch and kick him at Fallon's Hardware Store, Longford. Stokes pleaded guilty when the matter was first heard at Longford Circuit Court, and Judge Connolly imposed the custodial sentence after noting his eleven previous convictions and a probation assessment rating him as a high risk of reoffending.
