Michael Tuohy (51) of Beaufield Avenue, Maynooth, Co Kildare, a former healthcare assistant at the TLC Centre on Straffan Road, Maynooth, digitally penetrated an elderly woman with dementia while changing her incontinence pad. The matter came to light after gardaí were called to an incident at Tuohy's family home on 4 December 2021, and the offence date is not stated. Tuohy pleaded guilty at Naas Circuit Criminal Court to engaging in a sexual act with a protected person under Section 21 of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 2017. On 9 June 2023 Judge Martin Nolan sentenced him to 21 months in prison, and he will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
