On 16 September 2019, Gardaí were searching the home of Michael Toher, 26, at Tirellan Heights, Headford Road, Galway, when he arrived in possession of cannabis and diazepam worth €1,000. He admitted the drugs were his and later pleaded guilty to two charges of possession of drugs with intent to sell or supply, while two further simple possession charges were withdrawn by the state. On 13 October 2021, Judge Mary Fahy at Galway District Court imposed two six-month concurrent sentences, both suspended for two years, after his defence highlighted his drug addictions and efforts to enter treatment.
