On 21 August 2023, men dressed as workers forced their way into a home on Carrickbrennan Lawn, Monkstown, Co. Dublin, at around 8.15am, assaulted a man in his 70s with a metal bar, and held four occupants against their will. Michael Royal (48), Thomas Dwyer (24) and Patrick Fitzgerald (48) were arrested on 28 September 2023 following searches. The three men pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and false imprisonment at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. In February 2025, Judge Martin Nolan sentenced Royal and Fitzgerald to seven and a half years each and Dwyer to five and a half years, with a headline sentence of 10 and a half years.
