On 17 March 2019, a 70-year-old woman was crossing the road at a bingo gathering in Charlestown, Clara, when she saw a car driving the wrong way on a roundabout and fell over, breaking her wrist. Michael Ricard, 35, of Clara, told the court he had grown impatient waiting for cars to leave the venue and took a shortcut on the roundabout. He pleaded guilty to careless driving at Tullamore District Court in December 2021. Judge Staines convicted him and fined him €100, with a further €500 ordered from the Court Poor Box to the injured woman.
