latest first- 50th anniversary marks murder of Garda Reynolds in Killester bank robbery Murder · Co. Dublin
Three armed raiders, initially reported as four, robbed a Bank of Ireland branch in Killester, Dublin, on 11 September 1975, taking more than £7,000. Off-duty Garda Michael Reynolds, a man aged 25, was driving with his wife Vera and daughter Emer when his car was nearly struck by the getaway vehicle, and he pursued the robbers to St Anne's Park in Raheny. There, despite being unarmed, he caught one raider and dragged him to the ground, but another raider shot him dead at close range when he refused to release his accomplice. The robbers were never identified or charged. On the 50th anniversary in September 2025, a commemorative plaque was unveiled at Clontarf Garda Station and an oak tree was planted in St Anne's Park in his memory.
