Michael Reel, a 31-year-old man from Newry, pleaded guilty to assaulting a male causing him harm after landing a single punch on a rival player during a Summer football league final at Ballymakellett, Ravensdale, north Louth, on 30 August 2019. The victim's jaw was fractured and he required surgery to have three plates fitted. Judge Eirinn McKiernan refused jurisdiction at Dundalk District Court, referring the case to Circuit Court level, and the victim withdrew his complaint while the matter was still before the district court.
