  Michael Paul O'Leary, a 62-year-old man, raped Lorita O'Donoghue, a woman in her 30s, after plying her with brandy until she passed out at a property in Fermoy, Co Cork, that she and her fiancé were renting from him on 28 May 2022. A jury at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Cork convicted him by a 10-2 majority verdict in February 2025 after a week-long trial in which he claimed the sex was consensual. On 11 April 2025, Ms Justice Siobhán Lankford sentenced O'Leary to seven years' imprisonment, reducing a headline sentence of eight years for his previous good character, with no suspension.
