In December 2020, a father and son from Kerry called to a man's home in Donoughmore, Co Cork, and swapped a legitimate Rolex watch he had bought from them for €5,200 earlier that year for a fake one, taking an additional €7,250 in cash. The fake watch came with fake certificates of authenticity, and the men advised the victim to shake it and wait a few days when it stopped working. After a Garda investigation, both men repaid the money owed and the victim received the real watch back. They pleaded guilty at Cork Circuit Criminal Court in February 2024, and John O'Regan (37) was jailed for two years while his father Michael O'Regan (58) received a 16-month suspended sentence for playing a lesser role.
