Michael Noel Sheehan, a 76-year-old former scout leader from Glenville, Co Cork, was convicted of indecently assaulting a 13-year-old boy scout during a weekend away between January 1986 and April 1987. The victim, now 48, came forward after Scouting Ireland appealed to those abused in scouting to report. Sheehan denied the charge, calling the complainant a fantasist in his Garda interview, but a jury unanimously convicted him at Cork Circuit Criminal Court after the victim had to give evidence in two trials. He was sentenced to one year in prison, with one report citing two years with the final 12 months suspended.
