Michael Nevin, 32, was charged with public order offences after gardaí were called to Richmond Street, Longford, on 3 July 2021, where a large crowd had gathered and he was observed being removed by others while highly intoxicated and unsteady on his feet. At his first appearance at Longford District Court on 19 January 2022, the defence raised a 'savage attack' and five stitches, and the court heard he had 34 previous convictions and a suspended sentence in place at the time of the incident. Judge Bernadette Owens adjourned the matter to 22 March for a probation report, saying she wanted to see what Nevin was doing to address his alcohol dependency issues.
