• Man in his 30s arrested over assault in Limerick Assault · Co. Limerick

  On Monday 19 January 2026, a woman in her 40s was assaulted at a home in the Garryowen area of Limerick city. A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene after a stand-off with Garda negotiators and armed officers, and is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. The woman was treated at the scene by paramedics for non-life-threatening injuries. Gardaí say investigations are ongoing. The incident has drawn attention to Michael Moloney, 46, who was released from Midlands Prison approximately two weeks earlier after serving sentences for the rape and abuse of his stepdaughters Jenni Prunty and Chloe Shinnors.
