  Michael Lynn, a man aged 58 and former solicitor and property developer, is accused of obtaining multiple mortgages on the same properties from seven financial institutions in Dublin between October 2006 and April 2007, using forged documents and untruthful statements of affairs. He was charged with 21 counts of theft amounting to around €27 million, and after his first trial in 2022 ended without a verdict, a jury at his second trial in December 2023 found him guilty of 10 counts involving approximately €17.9 million from six institutions. Judge Martin Nolan sentenced him to five and a half years in prison in February 2024 after deducting credit for time served in a Brazilian prison. His appeal against conviction is at the Court of Appeal, where his barristers withdrew in November 2026 after he raised a question about their professional integrity.

  Michael Lynn, a 55-year-old former solicitor and property developer, was convicted in December 2023 of stealing almost €18 million from six banks and sentenced to 5½ years with credit for time served in Brazil. The Garda National Economic Crime Bureau is now investigating whether he is using Irish companies and property deals to launder the stolen money. In January 2024, more than 30 GNECB officers carried out dawn raids on five premises across three counties and froze bank accounts containing more than €2 million linked to an associate. A company under investigation for links to Lynn had negotiated a €10 million development deal with housing charity Respond in north Dublin in 2021 before abandoning it.
