Michael Lewandowski, a 45-year-old coffin maker, was arrested after a garda found an open can of beer in the centre console of his car, which was parked outside his home in Greenacres, Dundalk, with the lights on and engine running. He was charged with drink driving, driving without tax, insurance or NCT, and unaccompanied learner driving. At a contested hearing at Dundalk District Court in March 2022, the defence argued he was merely sitting in the car working on it, but Judge Máire Conneely convicted him of driving with a blood alcohol level above the legal limit. He was fined €350 and disqualified from driving for two years.
