On 25 September 2022, after a junior GAA football match at St Joseph's grounds in Wexford town, 34-year-old Glen McManus, a mentor for St Joseph's, punched referee Michael Lanigan in the back of the head and pushed umpire Edward Harding. Gardaí opened an investigation the following day. McManus was charged with assault causing harm, and the District Court judge declined jurisdiction, sending the case to Wexford Circuit Court.
