Michael King, a 53-year-old man previously of Boyle, Co Roscommon, was found guilty of 12 sexual assault charges against Tara Kelly, a 16-year-old woman, for offences committed between December 2004 and September 2005 in Roscommon. The complaint was made in 2020 and King was arrested in 2021; a jury at Roscommon Circuit Court unanimously convicted him in March 2023. In May 2023, Judge Kenneth Connolly sentenced him to five and a half years' imprisonment. In February 2024, the Court of Appeal reduced his sentence by 15 months to five years with the final nine months suspended for two years.
