  On 30 September 2025, Michael Johnston, a 47-year-old man, was highly intoxicated and had also taken pills when he became aggressive toward gardaí who confronted him at Longford Train Station. Garda Shaun Harrison of Longford Garda Station arrested him on the day, and he was charged with being intoxicated in a public place and engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour. He appeared before a recent sitting of Longford District Court, where a sergeant noted 19 previous convictions and his barrister said he had recently divorced and had been homeless until five weeks before the court date. The case ended with a conviction and a €250 fine, payable within ten months, as reported on 2 January 2026.
