On 2 January 2024, at around 6.20pm, a van veered onto the wrong side of the R149 at Cappagh, Kilcock, Co Kildare, colliding with a Nissan Almera driven by Junette Stronge, 49, who died at the scene. Her two children, aged three and six months, were uninjured. Michael Goggins, 55, from Longwood, Co Meath, was charged with dangerous driving causing death and entered an early guilty plea at Naas District Court. He was sentenced to three years, with 27 months suspended, meaning nine months in jail, and was disqualified from driving for four years.
