latest first- Truck driver sentenced for careless driving causing death in Ennis Careless driving causing death · Co. Clare
On 5 June 2018, Paul Van Tamlin, a 58-year-old UK national, was driving a white Volvo articulated truck when it struck a red Ford Transit van from behind at the exit from the Galway to Limerick motorway to Tulla outside Ennis, killing publican and milkman Michael Fogarty from Crusheen, Co Clare, who had been married to Bridget Fogarty for 36 years. A jury at Ennis Circuit Court found Van Tamlin guilty of careless driving causing death but not guilty of dangerous driving causing death. In December 2021, after Van Tamlin read a letter of apology to the Fogarty family, Judge Brian O'Callaghan imposed a suspended 12-month prison term and a four-year driving ban.
