  On 24 November 2021, Michael Cassidy, a 28-year-old man, was directed to leave the area by a garda at The Crescent, Dundalk, after being seen smoking and acting suspiciously around parked cars. He became aggressive, telling the garda he would flick his cigarette in his face, and was charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour and failing to comply with the direction of a Garda. The defence said Cassidy had been put out of his family home while drunk and had attended the garda station to get himself arrested out of desperation. At Dundalk District Court, Judge Eirinn McKiernan imposed a two-month suspended sentence subject to a 12-month Probation Service bond.
