Mervin Fay, a 39-year-old man, was sentenced at Dundalk district court in April 2022. He was charged with public order offences after spitting twice at a Garda vehicle on Park Street, Dundalk on 12 March 2022 while intoxicated and aggressive. He was also charged with the unauthorised taking of a BMW sports car from Hawthorn Crescent, Dundalk in 2010, and driving without insurance in 2009. Judge Eirinn McKiernan imposed sentences totalling four months and a six-year driving disqualification, backdated to the night of his arrest. Fay had 115 previous convictions including 39 from outside the State.
