  Melissa McInerney, 32, of Mountmellick, admitted stealing items from Supervalu in Mountmellick on 23 February 2022 and threatening and abusive behaviour at Portlaoise District Court on 25 March 2022. She had taken the items but returned them the following day and paid for them, and at the court incident she was leaving when another person followed her and began shouting. In March 2023, Judge Andrew Cody at Portlaoise District Court imposed a total four-month suspended sentence, comprising three months for the theft and one month for the public order offence, suspended for three years. The defence noted she had suffered a bereavement shortly before the offences, while the prosecution highlighted 15 previous convictions.
