Mazharul Choudhury, a 20-year-old man, was convicted in his absence at Galway District Court of two counts of assault and one of assault causing harm. The attacks on his then-girlfriend took place in October and December 2020 in Galway City, including choking her, snatching her phone, hitting her in the face, and causing a swollen black eye. The victim told the court she was depressed and traumatised for months after the attacks. Judge Mary Fahy issued a bench warrant for sentencing after Choudhury failed to appear.
