Innokenti Belaga, a man in his 50s, was shot in the right femur while meditating in his garden at Kilmashogue Lane, Rathfarnham, Dublin, on 28 August 2022. Maurice Mahon, an 81-year-old licensed huntsman, was stalking deer in an adjacent field when he discharged the shot. Mahon pleaded not guilty to reckless discharge of a firearm and assault causing harm, but a jury at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court returned unanimous guilty verdicts in March 2026. Judge Sheahan ordered a Probation Service assessment and adjourned sentencing to 27 July 2026, with Mahon remanded on continuing bail.
