A Shih Tzu dog was found in poor condition with matted fur that prevented it from seeing and made it difficult to walk, following a public complaint in Dublin on 26 February 2021. The DSPCA removed almost a kilo of hair from the dog, which was otherwise well-fed. Maureen Bracken was convicted at Dublin District Court of neglecting her pet and causing unnecessary suffering under the Animal Health and Welfare Act. She was fined €100 and ordered to pay €300 in prosecution costs. The dog has since been re-homed.
