Matthew Mongan, a 24-year-old man, was sentenced at Dundalk Circuit Court for dangerous driving causing the death of Seif Eddine Boudisa, an Algerian man, on the Armagh Road in Dundalk on 19 August 2023. Mongan was travelling at between 169 and 189 km/h in an 80 km/h zone when his car collided with Boudisa's e-scooter. A friend riding with Boudisa was hospitalised for several weeks with a fractured forehead and nasal injuries. Judge Dara Hayes sentenced Mongan to four years and three months, with the final 15 months suspended, and a 10-year driving disqualification.
