Matthew Fadeyi, a 34-year-old Nigerian man, raped a 20-year-old woman he had given a lift home in August 2018, in a car parked near her home. She made a formal complaint to gardaí in January 2019. After a 2021 trial ended without a jury verdict, Fadeyi was convicted of one count of rape at a retrial in May 2024 and was sentenced at the Central Criminal Court on 29 July 2024 to five and a half years in jail. A follow-up report from 31 July 2024 says he was reportedly arrested in a Garda fraud investigation linked to Black Axe, a claim the sources do not confirm.
